St Philip the Apostle
Philip like Andrew and Peter was from the fishing town of Bethsaida (John 1:43). He was the third apostle to be called by Jesus. (Matt 10:3; Mark 3:18; Luke 6:14 and Acts 1:13)
He brought Nathanael to the Lord and acted as a guide for some pilgrims from the Greek Diaspora who wanted to meet Jesus.
Philip was at the feeding of the five thousand (John 6:5-7) when Jesus tested him on where to buy food for the people.
In John 14:8-11 Philip says to Jesus, "Show us the Father", to which Jesus replies, "I am the Father and the Father is in me". The apostles subsquent career is obscure.
A letter of Polycrates bishop of Ephesus to Pope Victor, places Philip in the Roman province of Asia and declares he died of natural causes and
is buried in Hierapolis.
It would seem that the Church historian Eusebius (fourth century), confused Philip the Apostle with Philip the evangelist.
