Coming to church during Covid-19

Welcome to church!

We are delighted to see you... but we need to keep everybody safe

This page provides very important information and guidance to keep us all safe while we worship God together. Despite the necessary restrictions, it is good to be together and back in our church building, and we hope you will be encouraged and blessed through this time as you meet with God, and God meets with you.

Social distancing

Please respect two metres social distance at all times, while waiting to enter the building, when seated and when moving around.

Arriving

Entry is, as usual, through either the front (glass) doors or the back door on St Andrew’s Rd. You may have to wait outside while the stewards are welcoming the people ahead of you. There will be markings to show the distance apart. We will also have to limit entry to our maximum capacity with social distancing, so we may have to say we are already full. The service will also be available as usual on our Facebook page.

Record keeping

In line with government advice, a steward will ask for your name and phone number as you enter. This is for ‘track and trace’ in case someone attending the service should be found to test positive for the virus. Records will be kept securely for 21 days and then destroyed. We will not use the information for any other purpose.

Children

Sadly, for hygiene reasons the children’s area and toys are out of use. Children should remain with their parents at all times. You are, of course, welcome to bring your own books / colouring materials etc for the children. Please see the children & youth page for details of children's services.

Hygiene

Please use the stand-alone hand sanitiser as you enter the church. Should you need to use the toilets, please sanitise your hands again before use, then wash thoroughly for 20 seconds (sing ’Happy Birthday’ twice) after use, following the instructions on the poster.

Please do not touch surfaces unnecessarily or move between seats. Always use a tissue or the crook of your arm if you cough or sneeze.

Holy Communion

Communion will be administered in one kind only (just bread). The bread will be covered during the Eucharistic Prayer, and the priest will wear gloves for the distribution. Please keep two metres distance from others when coming forward for communion, and fully extend your arms to receive the bread in open hands.

Singing and responses

NO singing is permitted (other than a single voice – usually Trevor). Please resist the temptation to sing during the hymns! The words will be shown on the screen for you to follow as we cannot use hymn books. All the spoken responses should be said quietly, without projecting your voice.

Giving to St Andrew’s

We will not be taking a collection, but we have a contactless machine for one-off gifts - and information about regular giving using the Parish Giving Scheme. Please ask the clergy or a steward.

Read more about giving to St Andrew's.

The Peace

We stay in our places, quietly offering the peace to those around us verbally, perhaps with a nod, smile, bow, ‘namaste’ hand gesture or other suitable way.

After the service

At the end of the service we will also open the door near the piano. We are sorry we are not able to offer you a drink. Please leave the building without staying to chat – keep conversations outside but please still remember social distancing.

If you feel ill – stay at home

If you don’t feel well, or have any symptoms of Covid-19, please stay at home.
